Microsoft and Facebook Let Employees Work from Home After Epidemic

What can Kiloview do for remote collaboration in a company?

Microsoft announced on Oct 9, 2020 that they would let their employees to work from home freely for less than 50 percent of their working week, or for managers to approve permanent remote work. This will also become the path of more and more companies after Facebook said that up to half of employees could work remotely within five to 10 years.

Microsoft will now allow employees to work from home Employees who opt for the permanent remote work option will give up their assigned office space, but still have options to use touchdown space available at Microsoft’s offices.

What are the advantages of working from home?

“We have been working in ways we never thought possible, including managing necessary safety precautions, learning to connect with small or large teams while presenting to a screen, taking care of family and friends while being in the next room on calls, adjusting hours to address new demands and so much more.” Working from home is an effective way, also for saving expenses, maintaining efficiency, maximizing integration of various human and material resources, and a working mode suitable not only for epidemic but also in the long run.

What can Kiloview do for remote collaboration in a company?

Some people work from home, but more people work in the office/headquarter, which leads to frequent remote communication. People working at home especially need to keep in the loop with what happened in the office to ensure that they can keep up with the work process, so they rely on online communication, especially efficient video communication. Branches’ managers/workers at home need to participate in the team discussion and decision-making process through video, and the more members there are, the more important and more formal the video conference is, not only has high requirements of the conference software, but also puts forward the network speed and office video equipment. Meeting software must ensure the interactivity and effectiveness of meeting communication, and office video equipment must allow non-office personnel to fully keep pace with the discussion process by noting who put forward opinions, and how the resolutions are done. Therefore, it is very important for non-office people to record everything that happens in the office with one or more high-definition cameras/conference cameras in a complete and multi-angle manner. This perfectly avoids the risk of limited viewing angle caused by the single angle of the conference system on the computer or the computer’s own camera/USB camera.

On the other hand, by connecting multiple cameras of ndi with the encoder, you can freely transmit video sources to the conference system. In a remote meeting, you could share any of them to the audience, especially your teammates and clients. Take this for an example, you would like either show what you are discussing about at this moment, or you would like to share your desk to the audience in next minute. With an NDI-accessible encoder and meeting software, it’s very flexible and easy to do so.

If you are already equipped with a conference camera/HD camera, you can transfer everything recorded by the camera to the conference software, such as teams, zooms, google meet, through one or several video encoders and ndi protocol in real time during an office meeting. Participants scattered around can participate and communicate in real time. If they don’t need to make requirements for their video picture quality, they can use conference software. In addition, one piece of good news is that Newtek has confirmed that Teams can already support direct link ndi, which further accelerates remote team collaboration (See news). Of course, Kiloview also has a way to make the camera video easily connect to zooms and google meet through the video encoder and ndi. See the tutorial: How to Transfer Video Image Shot by Cameras to Zoom Meeting via NDI.

Of course, if you already have a conference camera/PTZ camera, it is also a convenient and easy option to connect them directly to the computer. But if you haven’t bought it yet or don’t plan to buy it, you can easily achieve efficient collaboration with ordinary cameras and the above methods.
